About Granadillo

Granadillo carries purplish-brown heartwood streaked prominently against creamy-white sapwood, with a straight-to-interlocked grain and a natural high-gloss finish. It’s not a true rosewood, but shares real kinship with Cocobolo in look and density — with one practical advantage: Granadillo works and glues more easily. Its density does make it a challenge for hand tools, but it responds excellently to machining with tungsten carbide or stellite-tipped equipment, particularly for mortising and molding — pre-drilling before screwing is recommended. Heartwood is highly resistant to rot fungi and termites, which suits it well for outdoor use in ground contact. It dries slowly with very few defects and stays largely free of internal stress. Beyond furniture and veneer, it’s long been a preferred wood for marimbas and fine handicrafts across the region.

Difficult by hand due to density, but excellent with carbide/stellite-tipped machine tooling — strong response to mortising and molding, bonds well with common white glue, pre-drill before screwing.

Rosewood's Easier-Working Cousin

Granadillo brings Cocobolo-level beauty and density to the bench — with a grain that's genuinely easier to shape, glue, and finish.
